No regrets opting for Nigeria ―Iwobi

Arsenal of England forward, Alex Iwobi has reiterated that he does not have any regrets whatsoever for opting to accept a nationality switch in order to play for the Super Eagles.

Speaking against the backdrop of Nigeria’s ongoing battles to win over Swansea City striker, Tammy Abraham to also don the green-and-white, Iwobi says he is happy that his choice paid off, as he has now contributed in taking Nigeria to next year’s World Cup.

Iwobi stated that qualifying for Russia 2018 with the Eagles is an amazing experience for him, and says he would advise any other player to follow suit.

Iwobi said he is grateful to his father and uncle, former Eagles’ captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha for urging him to accept Nigeria’s offer, which he says has paid off for him, despite the immense opportunities he had of getting a successful international career with England.

The Gunners’ former under-21 team skipper said: “It will be good to play at the World Cup. It’s another chance to add some confidence to my career.

“It will be amazing, my first World Cup. Obviously we would love to win it, but I will say let’s just enjoy the ride.

“I’m always happy to wear the colours of Nigeria, I have no regrets; it will always be an honour for me to wear the colours.

“I actually stepped up my confidence playing for England as a 16 year old, but I was happy when my dad and my uncle gave me an option of switching to Nigeria.

“I saw it as an opportunity to step up, and I have no regrets for making that choice. It was a big decision for me to make, because England treated me well.

“My advice to other players like me is that they must not choose to stay in the comfort zone, they can take a chance with Nigeria.”
