NPFL: Former lawmaker, Nwogu, commends organisers, stakeholders

A former House of Representatives member, Honourable Chidi Nwogu, has lauded the chairman of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye and members of his board over the success recorded in the just concluded 2023/2004 season.

The League which was concluded across various venues on Sunday saw Rangers International FC of Enugu emerge as champions with 70 points, won its eight titles and thus will fly Nigeria’s flag at the prestige CAF Champions League next football season. The Enugu-based club also went home with N150 million prize money as champions.

Nwogu, who represented Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu Njaba Federal Constituency of Imo State at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, in an exclusive interview with Sporting Tribune, also commended stakeholders such as the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, Governors Peter Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodinma, Godwin Obaseki and Dauda Lawal of Enugu, Imo, Edo and Zamfara States respectively for their interest and investment in sports which he said have positive impacts on the players mostly who are youths.

“l want to commend the success of the just concluded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on the serious improvement witnessed in turnout, interest and enthusiasm by stakeholders especially the chairman of the NPFL, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye and the Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan whose leadership has spurred up Nigerians, both players and spectators in football especially and sports in general.

“Also to be commended are sports-loving governors like Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara States. Their (governors) investments in sports must be commended and most especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has been positive and supportive in changing the face of Nigerian sports through his Minister of Sports.

Nwogu also congratulated the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, on his birthday described the former House of Representatives Speaker as an embodiment of humility and perseverance who has contributed to the growth of democracy in Nigeria.

“I want to wish the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, a splendid birthday. I celebrate him today and always. He is an embodiment of humility and perseverance and he has contributed significantly to the growth of democracy in Nigeria,” Nwogu told Sporting Tribune.
