NPFL: We are reaping reward of past years -Eguma

The coach of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Rivers United, Stanley Eguma has attributed his team’s success so far in the league to the result of hard work over the years.

Eguma disclosed this in an interview shortly after his team lost their away game to Heartland FC in NPFL matchday 28 fixture.

”We have been in and around the top for about two to three seasons now, and we have taken enough time to develop as a team over the years.

“We are reaping the reward of past years. It has been a work in progress for some time now but for now we are getting it right and we are on the right track,” he said.

He also stated that the good welfare the team currently enjoys from the management is also responsible for the success so far.

“The welfare of the team is really top notch, and the management has been taking good care of the team. We have a united family and a very good chairman in the person of Mr Chris Green who knows the various aspects of the game.

“We also have a very sound technical crew which is led by myself. All we need to do is intensify our efforts, and ensure we remain focused in this very tough league,” he stated.

On the issue of the remaining games in the league, “We are taking the games as they come, ten games are left and we are taking them as they come. We will keep working to gather points both home and away.

“We know that no team is a pushover now, even the teams in the relegation zones are even the most dangerous. We have our plans on each game and we believe that at the end we will come out on top and get the title.”

Eguma went further to applaud the League Management Company (LMC) for the organisation of the league so far, especially in the area of officiating and in them making sure that matches are not piled up.

“The officiating has been very okay. The season has been filled with a lot of uncertainties from games, and match centers. So many surprise results whereby away team’s go and pick up unexpected points.

“And also the LMC has tried to make sure that there are no piled up outstanding or postponed games. So they deserve kudos.” He said.
