President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Victor Ochei, has reiterated the Federation’s commitment to repositioning Nigerian tennis through institutional reforms, grassroots development and strategic partnerships.

The NTF president, who stated this ahead of the grand finale of the 6th DavNotch National Open Tennis Championship, which will hold on Saturday at the tennis court package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, said the Federation is keen on building a more competitive and sustainable future for the sport in Nigeria.

Represented by the Federation’s vice president, Adeyemi Owoseni, Ochei praised and commended DavNotch for believing and investing in Nigerian tennis while expressing hope that the partnership will last for a long time.

He said, “We hope that as we celebrate the sixth edition today, the Nigeria Tennis Federation will someday celebrate six decades of DavNotch’s sponsorship.”

Owoseni highlighted several reforms introduced by the current administration since assuming office about a year ago, which include the establishment of a comprehensive digital player registration system to create a reliable national database, as well as renewed emphasis on grassroots tennis development across the country.

He described Nigeria’s qualification for the Davis Cup World Group II after defeating higher-ranked Uzbekistan in the World Group II Play-offs as one of the Federation’s greatest achievements.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of DavNotch Nigeria Limited, Emmanuel Ochei, who also spoke about the company’s commitment to the development of tennis in Nigeria, announced plans to increase prize money and player incentives in future editions of the championship.

According to him, the Championship has grown into one of Nigeria’s foremost privately sponsored tennis tournaments since its inception in 2021, attracting more than 1,000 players and producing several national champions.

He added that the tournament has contributed significantly to the emergence of players who helped Nigeria secure promotion to the Davis Cup World Group II after a 38-year absence, as he expressed optimism ahead of Nigeria’s next Davis Cup tie against Morocco.
