A member of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nwachukwu on Saturday claimed the winner of the Ade Sunmonu Captain’s Day golf tournament held at IGC, Onireke, Ibadan.
The two-day tournament was organised to mark Sunmonu stewardship as the immediate Captain of IGC.
Nwachukwu, who is playing handicap 12, won the tournament after the Net score 70 on countback and 82 Gross ahead Wale Oshungbohun who played 70 Net with 90 Gross.
Lekan Ogunbameru won Best Gross with 76 Gross over Ahmed Sulaiman who played 77 Gross.
Evelyn Oyome also won IGC Ladies Best Net while Opeyemi Adenigba from Ekiti Golf Club claimed Guest winner Best Net.
Nwachukwu dedicated the vicgtory to the celebrant having promise to win the tournament for him.
He said “I won this tournament to honour my friend, the Captain we are celebrating today because I told him that he had to pay for my entry fee, he told me he wouldn’t not pay so, I called him for a game, I told him to put N10,000 on that game. I won him and he paid, so, I’m dedicating this winning particularly to him.
The celebrant, Sunmonu said the ceremony would have been done since March but due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said “It is a great privilege for the opportunity to be of service to IGC taking up the position of 23rd Captain. I came in with the main objective of putting IGC in her rightful position amongst golf clubs in Nigeria. With the support of the Executive Committee and encouragement from the generality of members we were able to actualise our plans.

“The Course was well maintained as new fixtures and other innovations were introduced on the course which made our Course very challenging, interesting and more inviting. The period witnessed influx of more golfers from outside Ibadan that resulted in more revenue generation through Green fees.
“I implore my successor, Mr Ola Ibironke who was my second vice Captain and his executive committee to work harmoniously and ensure that our club continues to grow from strength to strength. I assure you all that I will continue to contribute my own quota to the development of the Club at large.”
Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Mr Olumide Oyediran thanked the donor and appreciated the support of members of the club led by executive committee for providing the enabling environment and showing commendable hospitality to the guests. Saying indeed IGC is the home of Golf Club and its tradition.
The present Captain of the Club, Ola Ibironke popularly known as Dudu Heritage promised to move the club forward and work on the quality membership.
