NYG: Go for gold, Uba Sani tells Team Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has tasked Kaduna state athletes to go for gold medals at the 7th National Youth Games (NYG), holding in Asaba, Delta.

Gov Sani gave the charge on Thursday while addressing Team Kaduna athletes and officials ahead of their departure for the 2023 NYG.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Prof. Benjamin Gugong, said that the athletes do not have a reason not to excel.

“We are believing that as you go to Asaba, you will win gold medals in your respective events.

“I am speaking on behalf of the governor, who has promised to reward medal winners, as well as hosting the entire team to a reception on your triumphant return from the National Youth Games,” he said.

He urged the athletes to maintain high discipline while competing for medals and also use the national youth games as preparation for the forthcoming National Sports Festival.

Speaking earlier, Director of Sports Kaduna State, Yakubu Ibrahim, told the athletes that the best is expected of them following the welfare provided by the state.

Shortly after, kits, including branded tracksuits, canvass, caps and other items were presented to all athletes and officials on the contingent.

It would be recalled that Kaduna State at the North West Zonal Eliminations, dominated proceedings, including claiming most of the tickets, and raised the number of its athletes billed for Asaba to almost 300.

The state will be competing in over 23 events, including Volleyball, Hockey, football, Cricket, Karate, Cycling, Scrabble, chess and weightlifting, among others.
