Obama, Biden, others congratulate US Open women’s singles champion, Coco Gauff

Former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, has congratulated American teenage tennis player, Coco Gauff, after winning her first Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open women’s singles.

The 19-year-old beat 25-year-old Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-3 to claim the highly coveted title in New York.

Gauff became the youngest American to win a major since Serena Williams won her first title at the 1999 U.S. Open at 17.

Reacting to the win on X (formerly Twitter), Obama said he couldn’t be more proud of the youngster’s achievement at such a young age.

He wrote, “Congratulations to US Open champion @CocoGauff! We couldn’t be prouder of you on and off the court – and we know the best is yet to come.”

Similarly, the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, in a congratulatory message to Gauff on X said that she has made the entire American public proud.

He wrote, “Congrats to U.S. Open Champion @CocoGauff. You electrified Arthur Ashe stadium and the entire nation – the first of many more to come and proof that anything is possible if you never give up and always believe. You’ve made America so proud.”

Also congratulating Gauff on X, the Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, tweeted, “Congratulations, @CocoGauff! Your drive and determination are an inspiration to the millions of little girls watching. I am confident that while this is your first major title, it won’t be your last.”

Fans of the American teenager have also flooded X with congratulatory messages for her.

@SajawalSpeaks tweeted, “Huge congrats to the talented Coco Gauff for smashing her way to the top and clinching the US Open Championship! 🎾🏆 Keep shining on the court, Coco! ✨🙌”

Another X user, @ppvm4 wrote, “What an amazing display of skills and mental toughness. Congratulations champ! Definitely a level up.”

“Congratulations. God Bless. Incredible faith, character, work ethic, and example for us all. Beautiful accomplishments. More to come!” @brucedhendrix tweeted.
