Obasi shuns Turkey, Qatar offers

FORMER Nigeria World Cup star, Chinedu Obasi is holding out for a big pay day after he rejected offers from Turkey and Qatar.

Obasi, who is back in California, the United States of America, with his American wife, is a free agent after a superb brief stint with Swedish club AIK this past season.

The 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup silver medallist scored six goals in 10 games in the league for AIK to offer him an improved year’s deal, but it seems he will rather look at other options.

A source informed that the former Schalke 04 and Hoffenheim star who played at the 2010 World Cup has so far turned a chance to play in Turkey and Qatar.

A Turkish club have tabled 600,000 Euros for a season and a half, and he has also been sought after by a top Qatari club who are willing to shell out more than $400,000 for a short deal.

“He has rejected most of the offers he has had since the season ended in Sweden. He wants a big contract,” disclosed the source.

“He did well in Sweden, but he may need to do more to attract the kind of offer he has in mind because he has been out of the game for a very long time due to injuries.

Obasi joined AIK on a short deal after he last played for Schalke in November 2014.
