Despite Sevilla’s announcement to extend Vitolo’s contract until 2022, the player did not sign a new deal with the Andalusian side. Instead, he chose to travel to Madrid and sign for Simeone’s team.
After jetting in to complete the move, not showing up for training with Sevilla, Vitolo completed a medical for the Madrid side.
Atletico Madrid have announced a deal which will keep the Spain international in the Spanish capital until 2022. The club’s statement read:
‘Atlético de Madrid has reached an agreement with VÃctor MachÃn Perez, Vitolo, for the next five years after the football player was rescinded his contract with Sevilla Fútbol Club. Due to FIFA’s sanction that forbids the club from registering football players during the current summer market, the player will play the first half of the season with Unión Deportiva Las Palmas and will join our team starting on January 1st, 2018. The Spanish international has signed with our club until the 30th of June of 2022’.
‘Vitolo, who is 27, is a football player of proven experience and quality, who has defended the shirt of the senior national team 11 times and has become one the most unbalancing players of the League in the last seasons’.
‘The midfielder, winner of three UEFA Europa Leagues in 2014, 2015 and 2016, will contribute quality and speed to our midfield. Used to start at the side, the Spanish international will add forward passes and direct play to our attack. He adds to his ability to assist and reach the box to score, a work capacity that will be very valuable for the balance of the team’.
The winger will play for Las Palmas until January, when Atletico’s transfer ban is lifted.
