OFFICIAL: Chelsea unveil Bakayoko signing

Tiemoue Bakayoko is officially a Chelsea player after completing a long-awaited move from Monaco.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been officially announced as Chelsea’s latest signing, after completing a medical on Friday. He has signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, where he will wear the number 14 shirt.

The France international has signed for the Blues for a fee of around £40 million plus add-ons, and will play alongside his fellow countryman N’Golo Kante. The midfield dynamo becomes the club’s second-most expensive acquisition, having cost the Blues £10 million less than Fernando Torres in 2011.

The player spoke upon his unveiling: ‘I am very happy to be here and to join this great team. I have grown up watching Chelsea. Signing was the natural thing for me because it is a club I loved very much in my childhood’.

‘I am now looking forward to evolving under this fantastic coach and alongside so many great team-mates’.

Technical director Michael Emenalo added: ‘Tiemoue was outstanding as Monaco emerged as one of Europe’s best sides last season and we are delighted to welcome him to Chelsea’.

‘Despite his young age he already has plenty of experience as a French title winner and having competed in the latter stages of the Champions League, we believe he will add considerable quality to our squad’.

The athletic midfield man is Chelsea’s third signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of Willy Caballero and Antonio Rudiger.
