Daisi Olukayode of the Smokin Hills Golf Club, Emmanuel Odoh of Minna Golf Club and Oyome Evelyn of Ibadan Golf Club have emerged winners of this year’s 14th Elizabeth Wuraola Ojo Memorial Golf Tournament which ended last weekend at the Smokin Hills Golf Club, Ilara Mokin in Ondo State.
Olukayode, playing handicap 26 battled through the hash weather and enduring topography of the Smokin Hills Golf Course to capture his first amateur men’s title at the tournament by posting a gross of 90 and a net score of 64. He was closely followed by his club mate, Ojuolape Tunji, playing handicap 14 who posted a gross of 80 and a net score of 66 while the Capatain, MicCom and Country Golf Club, Alhaji Akeem Afolabi, an Eight handicap finished as second runner up with a gross of 78 and net score of 70.
Odoh clinched the professional title with a gross of 71 as Abeokuta Golf Club’s Sanusi Muba came second with a gross of 77 while the pair of Salisu of Tiger Golf Club and Isuku Donatus were joint second runners up with a gross of 78 apiece.
The Amateur Ladies title went to Deaconess Sophia Mary Ahuoiza Makinde of Ikoyi Club playing handicap 35 after posting a gross of 101 and a net score of 66, while Rita Izoje, a former cyclist from Asaba Golf Club placed second with a net score of 70 as Oyome Evelyn handicap Five player from Ibadan Golf Club won the best gross of 83
Amakiri Abiye won the men’s Best Gross of 76 with a handicap of Six. The Veteran Best Net prize went to Chief Clement Olowokande playing handicap 24 with a gross of 100 and net 76 on count back.
Of note in the tournament is the Amiable Woman’s prize which went to the wife of the Ondo State governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. The prize is symbolic of the amiable nature of the departed woman of substance, Chief Mrs Elizabeth Wuraola Ojo.
However, speaking shortly after receiving his Olukayode gave kudos to the organisers and sponsors of the tournament, Chief Michael Ade Ojo, Chairman Toyota (Nigeria) Limited (TNL) and the Managing Director Adekunle AdeOjo for their consistency in sponsoring the tournament for the past 14 years.
