Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, has set a new record as Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the UEFA Champions League.
The striker achieved the feat on Tuesday night after scoring for Galatasaray in their 1-0 win over Liverpool in Istanbul.
Osimhen struck from the penalty spot in the 16th minute, recording his 10th goal in the competition.
The goal pushed him ahead of Obafemi Martins, who had scored nine Champions League goals during his spells with Inter Milan and Newcastle United.

Osimhen’s Champions League journey began in 2019 when he played for French side Lille. He netted his first goal in the tournament against Chelsea on 2 October that year.
His career in the competition gathered momentum during his time with Napoli. He scored key goals across two campaigns, helping the Italian club reach the quarter-finals for the first time in 2023.
Now with Galatasaray, Osimhen has continued to find the net, reaching double figures and setting a new benchmark for Nigerian players in Europe’s premier club competition.
Away from the Champions League, Osimhen has built an impressive career.
He became the first African to win the Serie A Golden Boot after scoring 26 league goals for Napoli in the 2022/23 season.
In 2023, Osimhen was named CAF African Footballer of the Year. He became the first Nigerian to claim the honour since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
