VICE-PRESIDENT Yemi Osinbajo was at the National Stadium, Abuja, on Tuesday to motivate the Super Eagles as they prepare for their match against the Desert Foxes this weekend.
Nigeria host Algeria on Saturday in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo and Osinbajo commended the Eagles for defeating Zambia away from home on match day one of the qualifiers last month and tasked them to also beat the Algerians, assuring them that the whole country is behind them in their quest to qualify for Russia 2018.
He said: “We are not just going to qualify for the World Cup, we are going to storm the World Cup with surprise.
“Government is going to do everything possible to ensure the needed support is given to the team.
“We are looking forward for better result; go and win the match, so that Nigeria will be in firm position in the Group B as other opponents drew their first match,” he said.
“We will give you all the encouragement. Thank you for what you’re doing for your country.”
He specifically told the players that he and President Muhammadu Buhari will watch the match live on TV at the Aso Rock Villa.
Osinbajo also charged players of the Super Falcons who were also at the stadium, preparing for the African Women’s Championship. He told them to go and do Nigeria proud in Cameroon by retaining the title.
Responding, captain of the Super Eagles, John Obi Mikel, appreciated Vice-President Osinbajo’s visit and assured him that the team will do Nigeria proud.
Also, Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung, thanked the Vice-President for showing dedication to the national teams and assured him of the team’s determination to succeed.
