Pinnick allays fears on Ikeme’s absence

PRESIDENT of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick says Nigerians have no cause to worry over the absence of goalkeeper Carl Ikeme for Nigeria’s match on Saturday.

Injury knocked the Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper out of the World Cup qualifier against Algeria, but Pinnick says any of the goalkeepers in the Super Eagles camp is capable for the task ahead.

Pinnick spoke on Tuesday during the training of the Super Eagles at the National Stadium, Abuja.

“Nigerians have no cause to worry over the absence of Ikeme. All the goalkeepers in camp are capable. There is cause to fear,” Pinnick said.

South Africa-based Dan Akpeyi was called to replace Ikeme immediately it was confirmed that he would not be available for the all-important match.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the Super Eagles are expected to move to Uyo today after their morning training.
