Peseiro says Super Eagles ‘deserved to win’ Sierra Leone, qualify for 2023 AFCON

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has shared his thoughts on his team’s triumphant performance against Sierra Leone in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Sunday.

The Portuguese tactician believes that the Super Eagles rightfully emerged victorious in the hostile territory of their opponents.

Leading the attack for Nigeria, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen showcased his prowess by finding the back of the net twice in the opening half, securing a valuable advantage for the visiting team.

Despite a spirited comeback from the home side, who managed to equalize with two goals, it was the late strike from Kelechi Iheanacho that sealed the deal. Nigeria emerged triumphant and secured their rightful place in the tournament, leaving Monrovia with a well-deserved three points.

”Very hard match my players never gave up, they fought till the final whistle in the first half we created up to eight opportunities but only scored two goals.

“We deserved to win but I think it was a difficult and very good match but our team is the best in the group.

“We did a fantastic job against a good team. I’m happy with my players, congratulations to them.
