Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confirmed Manchester City’s interest in signing him over the summer.
Sportsmail revealed that Pep Guardiola was keen on landing the Borussia Dortmund striker, with it then emerging in early June that City had held talks.
Aubameyang – who has seven goals to his name already this season – is thought to have been priced out of a move by Dortmund, who were holding out for in the region of £58million.
‘It’s true, there was contact,’ the Gabon international told Onze when asked about City. ‘My father held talks with the club, but in the end there was nothing concrete.’
City are happy with their attacking options given Sergio Aguero’s deadly form in front of goal and the continued emergence of understudy Kelechi Iheanacho.
Aubameyang also sought to qualify comments he made about Real Madrid earlier this year, in which he appeared to be angling for a move to Real Madrid.
‘I think there was interest [from Real Madrid], but it was more distant so I didn’t get too carried away,’ he added.
‘I was asked in interview: “What is the club of your dreams?” I replied: “Real is the club of my heart and I made a promise to my grandfather to play there one day, I hope it will happen.”
‘So it’s just a target, I still have time. If they want me, they will come.’
