Portugal rules out joint tournament bid with Spain

Portuguese newspaper A Bola has ruled out the possibility of the nation launching a joint bid with Spain for a European Championships or World Cup.

Diario AS cites the Lisbon-based outlets claiming the reports are ‘baseless’ following a variety of news outlets on Wednesday claiming the possibility.

It states that a joint bid by the nations “is not in the future plans of the neighboring country” following suggestions of an attempt to host the 2028 European Championships or 2030 World Cup.

There have also been suggestions that Morocco, geographically close to the Iberian peninsula, will launch a joint bid with Spain for the 2030 World Cup.

Spain last hosted the tournament in 1982.
