“Ramos is the leader, Cristiano isn’t human and Benzema is a pure talent”, said the former French midfielder, who referred to how he got the best out of his Portuguese star this season: “It was easy, he is an intelligent player and I know him well. These players can believe in me. Cristiano pushes the others and he is the best”.

If he was not a manager, Zidane says he would have been a “delivery driver”, describing himself as “patient and unusual”.

On him becoming Real Madrid head coach, Zidane said: “The agreement with Florentino [Perez] happened very fast, I was preparing for a game with the B team when he called me to tell me I would be managing the first team. He works like that, he knows what he wants and his strategy is very clear.”

To end the excerpt from the interview, the Frenchman admitted that “the only thing that interests us is finding the best way to avoid running, which is keeping the ball”, giving a small pointer to his future: “I am currently the coach of Real Madrid but I don’t know for how long.”
