Technical Director of Enugu Rangers, Christian Chukwu, has expressed concern over the team’s poor on-target finishing at goal.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday that the team’s finishing needed to be worked upon for them to retain their winning ways in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League season.
“Rangers FC will only need to work on its goal-scoring finishing in getting back to its winning streak once more,” he said after the team’s 1-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors last Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu in a match day three fixture.
The former Super Eagles handler attributed the lapses in Rangers striking ability to some of the new players introduced into the club.
He, however, expressed optimism that with time, the new players would blend with the team’s style of play.
“Apart from that, we currently have a formidable team, especially when you take a critical a look at the team.
“The only thing lacking is that perfect and on-target finishing for our strikers, especially the newly signed-on players.
“However, we will continue to work on the new players who have already shown signs of blending well with our style of play.
“They have also started to understand their team mates in the pitch of play.”
The technical director said that he was optimistic that Rangers FC would be battle-ready when the 2016/2017 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League begins.
NAN reports that Rangers’ CAF Champions League campaign will start in the first week of February.
Meanwhile, Chisom Egbuchulam has rejoined Rangers after he failed to secure a deal in Tunisia.
The NPFL Player of the Season has returned to training with Rangers and hopefully he may play his first league match of the the season today away to Akwa United.
Egbuchulam, who scored 16 goals last season as Rangers emerged champions, was first at Etoile du Sahel before he negotiated with another Tunisian team Club Africain.
“I am back to my club. It is a long story, which I don’t wish to discuss,” he said.
“I am just hoping to be part of my team by playing matches and give my best as usual.”
Egbuchulam watched from the stands on Sunday as Rangers recorded their first win of the season by beating El Kanemi Warriors 1-0 in Enugu.
