Raymond King is dead
It was a fateful New Year for fans and family of Raymond King following the death of the former Nigerian international on Monday.
King, hospitalised at Ward 7 of Ikorodu General Hospital was carried to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, for further treatment of partial paralysis on Sunday night but the charismatic goalkeeper lost the battle to live at around 1pm on Monday.
Seyi King, the wife of Raymond had on New Year Eve told Tribunesport that the football star had a 50-50 chance of survival as he was to be operated on in his head as a result of previous bruises from the ailment which lasted over a month.
However, Seyi was cast down to talk on Monday but a family friend, Paul Oke who played for the defunct VIP Teluwo Babes of Ijebu Ode picked up her phone confirmed King’s death and the time of his transition.
During his playing career, King played in the Nigerian Academicals, at the 1979 National Sports Festival and with the Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Abiola Babes of Abeokuta. He later worked as goalkeeper’s trainer for Gateway FC of Abeokuta.
