Real Madrid equals Barcelona’s impressive mark of 16 La Liga wins in a row

Real Madrid was impressive on Sunday, beating Espanyol on the road 2-0 without Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, who were out injured. The result was Real Madrid’s 16th win in a row in La Liga dating back to last year, matching the all-time record set by Barcelona in 2010-11.

So far this year, Real Madrid has gone 4-0-0, scoring 11 goals and allowing four.

To set the record, Real Madrid will have to beat Villarreal, who it plays on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET.
