FORMER Portsmouth of England and Jordan coach, Harry Redknapp, is said to be leading the pack of no fewer than 75 tacticians who have applied to coach the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars.
According to ghanasoccernet, also in the race to handle the four-time African champions is the man who coached the Cranes of Uganda to the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevi, among others.
Micho, who led Uganda to a barren draw against the Black Stars last October at Tamale Sports Stadium, in a 2018 World Cup qualifier has been nursing the ambition to coach Ghana since then.
“At the moment, I am contented with my job as the Uganda Cranes head coach. I don’t want to talk about this but as every coach in Africa I hope to coach the Black Stars team one day, if not I want to become one of the highest coaches in Africa,” the Serbian coach had said.
Meanwhile, the six-man committee saddled with the responsibility of hiring a new coach for Ghana has set Friday, March 10 at 5pm as the final deadline for the submission of applications for the job.
The GFA executive committee tasked the committee headed by FA boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi to look for a coach for the Black Stars flowing the departure of Avram Grant shortly after leading Ghana’s senior national team to finish fourth at AFCON 2017.
The committee is mandated to target suitable and competent coaches for consideration even if they don’t apply for the post as well as those who will apply for the job.
In a statement published on the official website of the Ghana FA, coaches who desire to handle the Black Stars are to submit their applications by March 10.
Insiders say the committee will take ten days to prune the list and shortlist five coaches, one of whom will be the eventual Black Stars coach by March 20.
Ghanasoccernet gathered that about 75 coaches, both local and foreign have submitted applications for the job.
Ghana are keen to announce a new coach by April this year to prepare for the 2019 AFCON qualifier with Ethiopia in June.
