Rodriguez switch to Arsenal ruled out

Arsenal’s reported pursuit of James Rodriguez looks to be over after Bayern boss Niko Kovac said the forward is happy in Germany.

The Gunners are eager to do some business as they look to secure a top-four finish although manager Unai Emery has revealed the club can only deal in loans due to financial constraints.

Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is said to be a target for the former Sevilla and PSG boss but a deal is looking increasingly unlikely due to Ernesto Valverde’s reluctance to let the Spaniard leave.

With that in mind, Arsenal were then linked with a loan move for Bayern Munich star Rodriguez, who is coming towards the end of his two-year loan spell at the Allianz Arena after joining from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017.

The Premier League outfit were reportedly set to pay Los Blancos £3million to take the attacking midfielder until the end of the campaign, with the option to make the deal permanent.

However, speaking about the Colombia international, Kovac insists Rodriguez is going nowhere this month.

“He wants to stay with FC Bayern as he once said during a fan club visit, he is highly motivated and focused,’ Kovac was quoted as saying by TEAMtalk. ‘He can always help us with his quality.”
