Players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL),will not be involved when the Super Eagles take on Algeria and Argentina next month, except goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye.
Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has again shut out the NPFL stars because the domestic league season is over and a kick-off date for the new season will only be after the World Cup qualifier in Algeria on November 10 and the friendly against Argentina four days.
A top source told SCORENigeria: “Rohr is expected to name a big squad for the two matches against Algeria and Argentina, but except for the goalkeepers Ezenwa and Ajiboye, no player from the NPFL will feature.
“He cannot guarantee their match fitness as they are not in competition.
“He has been consistent on this.”
For this month’s decisive World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Uyo, the two outfield players from the NPFL who trained with the Eagles squad were Akwa United midfielders Afeez Aremu and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi.
Previously the likes of Ibrahim Alhassan ‘Muazzam’, Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun from the NPFL have been considered for the Eagles main squad.
‘Muazzam’ and Odey are now plying their trade in Europe.
