Former Nigerian international, Garba Lawal has warned Super Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr not to make too many changes in the team that qualified the country for the World Cup.
There have been reports that some scouts are trying to introduce fresh blood-players of Nigerian descent raised in foreign countries- to the team.
However Lawal, whose goal helped Nigeria to defeat Spain 3-2 in a France ’98 group game, insisted that the core of the Eagles which won the Russia 2018 World Cup ticket should be encouraged to finish the job.
“All the teams that qualified for the world cup are tough, there is no easy country in there.”
“When it comes to the world cup, everyone is good and wants to parade her best side.”
“You should not think you’ll change the players that qualified and bring another set of players, it is going to be difficult like that.”
So the coaches should know the key positions that they think they need fresh legs. All the games are going to be very tough.
Lawal, who also represented Nigeria at the 2002 tournament, believes Nigeria will face a tough challenge in Group D at Russia 2018.
“Iceland and Croatia are forces to be reckoned with, the group is not only about Argentina”.
