AHEAD of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier next month, world football body, FIFA, have handed both the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon a major boost by elevating them on their monthly scale.
According to the rankings released by FIFA on Thursday, Nigeria are now world’s number 38 and Africa’s number 6.
Meanwhile Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier foes, the Lions of Cameroon who were on number 38 last month are now rated 37th, gaining one way up just like Nigerian counterparts.
Both countries play Nigeria over two legs in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month with the Eagles first at home in Uyo. The lions host three days after in Yaounde. .
Algeria and Zambia are the other teams in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying group.
Algeria are eighth in Africa and 48th globally, while Zambia are a lowly 96th in the world and 25th in Africa.
