Nigeria head coach, Gernot Rohr, has said the criteria he will use to pick players for the upcoming Russia 2018 World Cup will be very clear and simple.
Nigeria last Saturday beat the Chipolopolo Zambia by a lone goal to earn the sole Group B ticket of the African qualifiers for the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Handled by Rohr, the Eagles, by the win, earned an unassailable 13 points to head the group also made up of Cameroon and Algeria.
When asked how he is going to pick a strong squad for Nigeria at the World Cup, Rohr told TV5:’We have eight months ahead of the World Cup but that is not a lot because we do not have the time to get together to plan.
‘’The time between when the European seasons end and the World Cup commences is too short. We are talking of just three weeks of familiar sessions for a World Cup that lasts for a month, so there is no time on our hands’.
‘’I am clear in my head who to pick. We shall not take players who think the World Cup is meant as visitors’ tourism. We shall go with players who believe the Eagles can win the World Cup, those who are proud of the colour they wear.’’
On team fortification, Rohr stated that no team in the World is complete until it wins the World Cup.
In Brazil 2014 World Cup, Germany continued to ring changes until they won the World Cup, Mustafi and Howedes were not starters until the elimination stages. Today, Germans credit Low for bringing them in. We can never be satisfied until we end the campaign’’
