Sanchez bemoans United not signing Vidal

Alexis Sanchez wants Manchester United to sign big players amid a disappointing transfer window for the club.

United poached Sanchez from Arsenal in January as the Chilean chased the opportunity to win the Premier League after four years at the Emirates. Barcelona completed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Vidal this month, who had long been linked with a switch to England.

Vidal always said he never wanted to live in England and repeatedly turned down the chance to join Chelsea, but Sanchez hinted he wished his club had snapped up the 31-year-old.

‘At United we have to sign big players, with experience,’ Sanchez told Sky Sports.

‘Barcelona just signed Arturo Vidal, who is a great player and my team-mate from Chile.

‘He is an example of the type of players we need to sign in order to win trophies and compete at the highest level.

‘From what I’ve seen in training, Fred is a player who always wants to get forward, he is always trying to get forward and from a personal point of view I think we’ll be able to combine well and it will be good for my game.’

United have made just one major signing this summer, Shakhtar Donetsk Fred, with squad players Lee Grant and Diogo Dalot also arriving at the club.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring in a world class centre-back before the English transfer window closes on Thursday at 5pm.

United failed in moves for Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld, and are now considering bringing in Jerome Boateng on loan from Bayern Munich. The Red Devils face a race against time to secure further signings, and kick off their league season with a clash against Leicester City on Friday.
