Season could be over for Ndidi -Rodgers

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed doubt as to whether Wilfred Ndidi will feature again this season due to a knee injury he sustained last week.

The Nigeria international was called up to Augustine Eguavoen’s squad for the World Cup qualifying playoff double-header against Ghana on March 25 and 29.

However, Ndidi hurt his knee during the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat to Rennes in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, ruling him out of the Super Eagles’ crunch two-legged tie.

The initial prognosis suggested the 25-year-old midfielder could return to action in mid-April, but Rodgers has subsequently revealed that the injury may be worse than first thought.

“Wilf is not so good,” he was quoted as saying by LeicestershireLive. “We’re just waiting for a second opinion on that but whether he’ll play for the rest of the season I’m not sure. It’s a real shame for us.”

The Nigeria Football Federation announced on Sunday that Lorient midfielder Innocent Bonke has been called up as a replacement for the injured Ndidi.
