Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday night at The Hive Stadium, London, England, suffered a 0-2 loss to the Eagles of Serbia, in another build-up match to the 2018 World Cup.
It was the second defeat suffered by the Nigerian team under Gernot Rohr.
Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who maintained a clean sheet against Poland, was helpless this time as he let in two goals in the second half.
The Serbians dominated the better part of the proceedings as the Super Eagles were unable to match the pace of their opponents.
The agility of Uzoho saved what would have been Serbia’s opener in the 16th minute as he was quick enough to cuddle the ball after crossing the goal line.
Victor Moses grounder from edge of the box earlier in the 13th minute was parried by Serbia keeper Vladimir Stojkovic for a corner kick.
Moses was later replaced in the second half by Odion Ighalo.
Serbia broke the deadlock situation in the 68th minute through Aleksandar Mitrovic whose left-footed effort from inside the box caught Uzoho helpless.
Ighalo three minutes later almost levelled the score but his deflected shot was too weak to beat keeper Stojkoevic.
Mitrovic made it a brace in the 80th minute as he stroked the ball into an empty net after receiving a cross from Dusan Tadic.
Despite the loss, Nigeria and Arsenal FC of England player, Alex Iwobi, was the toast of all the fans at the stadium as they kept chanting his name ‘Alex’ ‘Alex’ ‘Alex’.
