Serena reclaims no 1 spot, Federer back among top 10

Roger Federer has forced his way back into the world’s top 10 after his triumph at the Australian Open, while Serena Williams has reached number one again.

Federer, who clinched his 18th Grand Slam title at the age of 35 after beating Rafael Nadal in the final in Melbourne, has climbed seven spots to number 10.

Playing in his first Grand Slam since Wimbledon last year, Federer came into the tournament seeded just 17th but his memorable victory has seen him seize back a top-10 spot.

Fellow victor in Melbourne, Serena Williams, has reclaimed the number one spot from last year’s champion Angelique Kerber after she sealed her 23rd Grand Slam title.

Williams, who came into the tournament as the number two seed, defeated sister Venus in the final to ensure that she usurped the German.

Meanwhile, world number one Andy Murray retains his status at the top of the men’s game despite his shock exit to Mischa Zverev in Australia.
