Smart City Football Club of Surulere have emerged the champions of this year’s edition of Winners Golden Bet/Lagos FA Cup played at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.
The Surulere-based amateur side defeated Spartans Football Club, Agege 1-0 in a keenly match watched by well over five thousand spectators which included top Nollywood actors, Funsho Adeolu and Ajirebi.
Earlier in the day, FC Robo had defeated Young Talents 99 to emerge the winners of the female category of the final 6-2.
Both sides played in the final of the same group last year with FC Robo emerging victorious.

Esther Onyenezid of FC Robo and Bashiru Kareem of Smart City won the Most Valueable Player awards in female and male category respectively.
Smart City, Spartans FC, FC Robo and Young Strikers 99 will represent the state at Aiteo Cup national competition which gets underway later in the months.
Speaking shortly to Corporatesport after the trophy presentation, Chief Executive Officer, WGB, Idowu Obasa not only expressed delight at the large turnout of fans at the stadium, but also commended the LSFA for its organisation ability pledging his continue sponsorship of the event.
In his remarks, the chairman, Lagos State Football Association, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, commended the teams for the good football displayed and assured them of adequate support at the national finals of Aiteo but urged them to train hard.
“It is our dream on the LSFA board to see a team from the state, not only play in the final of Aiteo Cup, but lift the trophy and as a result of this, we are going to give the clubs representing the state maximum and deserved support that will make them excel”.

Adeyinka Adeboye, the chairman, Smart City Football Club in a brief chat with Corporatesport described the victory as a dream come true, saying he had been longing to lift the FA Cup trophy and commended the players and officials for making the dream reality.
“The victory did not come cheap. We all worked and planned for it and I am happy that we were able to actualize the dream,” an elated Adeboye said.
It will be recalled that Smart City lost 0-3 to MFM in the final of WGB/LSFA last year.
