Former coach of the Super Eagles, Chief Adegboyega Onigbinde said it did not really matter who had been grouped with Nigeria.
“Statistics don’t win matches in football. Football is all about ball possession. As good as Pele was, it was only when he was allowed to receive the ball that he would do his tricks,” Chief Onigbinde said.
Nigeria’s fate in the Group D of the 2018 World Cup, according to the former FIFA technical committee member, will depend on how adequately the team are prepared.
“In 2002, France came to Korea/Japan [World Cup] with the cup, in their first match, they were beaten by [debutantes] Senegal. What has that got to do with ratings? No team should be underrated and neither should any team be overrated,” he added.
