A young golfer from the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Hassan Sulaiman on Saturday won the IGC Captain’s Day golf tournament held at the club house, Onireke, Ibadan.

The tournament which was also used to mark the stewardship of the erstwhile Captain of IGC, Barrister Idowu Salami saw Sulaiman finish with 63 Net.

Evelyn Oyome won the Gross Ladies event with 78 Gross, while Folasade Oni emerged victorious in the IGC Ladies category with 73 Net.

Abiodun Asuni of IGC won the Veteran Men’s title with 85 Gross and 73 Net ahead of Williams-Egbah with 92 Gross and 74 Net.

An elated Sulaiman while speaking with Corporatesport said he dumped tennis for golf about four months ago.

“I feel honoured and humbled because winning this tournament came as a surprise to me. I started playing golf four months ago and I have improved so fast. I feel happy about this modest achievement.

“Though, my brother Ahmed Sulaiman aided the standard of my game. He encourages me a lot and my target now is to keep improving, keep practising and perform better and better.

“In fact, I started with tennis but since I embraced golf four months ago, I have not touched my tennis racket. I’ve been so addicted to golf, it is an interesting game,” Sulaiman who is playing handicap 26 said.

Earlier in his remarks, Salami said he was fulfilled with what he was able to achieve in the last two years.

“I must place on record the unique contribution and total support of members of the club for your various sacrifices and endurance in the last two years. I am not unmindful of the periods where we have improvised construction and reconstruction processes both on and off the course yet, you bore the same with admirable candour and together we navigated the various bends.

“While, I was committed to improving the welfare and better working conditions and I beseech you to give the incoming administration the needed support and loyalty to improve on what we are leaving behind,” he added.

Meanwhile, Salami, later handed over the mantle of leadership to the new Captain, Mr Olumide Oyediran who will run the affairs of IGC till March 2019.

Other executives are: second vice Captain, Col. Ade Sunmonu (retd.) House and Bar officer, Uchechukwu Ukandu; Lady Captain, Tope Faronbi; Secretary, Barrister Dele Abolarin; Competition Secretary, Mr Benard Nduka; Treasurer, Wale Olagoke.
