A new twist has been added to the transfer saga of Sunday Faleye , who was listed as a player of Akwa United when the 23 man list for the Super Eagles for CHAN tournament was released two days ago.
Paul Bassey , the chairman of Akwa United has said that the teenage sensation is not a player of Akwa United of Uyo.
Bassey gave this revelation while speaking to PM EXPRESS in Abuja on Thursday as he stressed that Faleye, who plied his trade with Shooting Stars Sports club, 3SC of Ibadan last season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is a very good player that Akwa United would have loved to sign ahead of the new season, but everything about the transfer negotiation broke down, so the club stopped the transfer process when 3SC was too hard with certain conditions.
” Sunday Falaye is not an Akwa United player. Akwa United had wanted to sign that young man to boost our continental position.
” Thank God, we went to a team that has gone down and we felt for a player that wants to be relevant in the national team, it will do his image a lot of good for him to play for a team in the top league, but we had a lot of challenges from Shooting Stars.
“When we officially spoke with General Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club, (3SC), Rasheed Balogun we decided that since the player was not for sale, we should not have anything to do with him.
” I was only shocked when I saw the CHAN Eagles list and beside Sunday Falaye’s name had Akwa United as his club. Sunday is not an Akwa United player. Whether he will be in the future, I don’t know .
He added “There is always mid season window, but for now , Sunday is not a player of Akwa United. When the players of Akwa United will be unveiled this Saturday and when the league will commence next weekend, Sunday will not be seen wearing the colours of Akwa United.”
“It is important to state this fact and clear this for everybody to know, ” Bassey insisted .
Meanwhile, Faleye has informed PM EXPRESS in an exclusive chat that he intends to use the CHAN tournament in Morocco to showcase his talent to the whole world and he does not see himself playing in the Nigerian league again.
He further expressed his desire to play for a team in Spain, France or Belgium, but he would really loved to play for a club in Spain.
“If I have my way, I will not play for a club in Nigeria again. I hope to work very hard and play my part for the Super Eagles in the CHAN tournament in Morocco and I believe that the tournament will be a great platform to tell the world that I am a good player and from then, anything can happen.
” I would love to play in France, Belgium or Spain, but I really prefer to play in Spain. I believe that my playing style is similar to the players from Spain,” he said.
