Nigerians on social media have called out the Super Eagles following their surprise 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in the Group A African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture on Friday.
Fans of the Super Eagles were expecting a comfortable win thanks to the stellar form of Nigerian forwards (Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ademola Lookman) who have contributed 69 goals and assists among themselves for their club sides in all competitions this season.
Following the loss, they took to social media to express their displeasure at the Super Eagles’ tepid and wasteful performance.
Some fans called out the star players for not giving their all, while some others focused on the poor state of the pitch at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Head coach Jose Peseiro didn’t escape the fans ire either, some questioned if he has what it takes to manage the Super Eagles

@the_Lawrenz Super Eagles fell off.
@MalachyOdo1 My Dad told me a long time ago that one of the secrets of living to a ripe old age as a Nigerian is to avoid Super Eagles matches.
@DanielRegha Super Eagles couldn’t rival Guinea-Bissau with all the stars in the squad; Nigerian players will be unstoppable abroad, breaking records, but won’t put in the same energy once they’re playing for the country. Same thing happened during the last AFCON, & it’s beyond upsetting.

The Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have created a RECORD today.
They’ve not lost FIVE CONSECUTIVE GAMES for the first time ever.
Kudos to the team and their new manager who has no clue on what he’s doing. pic.twitter.com/sbQR2QLZh6

@ChumaNnoli The Super Eagles have now lost four games in a row – scoring only one goal and conceding nine in that run. Very embarrassing record. Coach Jose Peseiro is struggling to get it right with the Nigeria national team.
@islimfit What really is the problem with our National Team? We have lots of players who are exceptional good at their clubs. One would expect that the collective talents would make us the team every Nation dread to play. Super Eagles hasn’t been anything close to Super.
@TemisanEA Dunno who’s more clueless Peseiro or his players?
