Super Falcons storm NASS in protest against non-payment of allowances

The victorious Nigeria’s female national team, the Super Falcons, on Wednesday morning, stormed the National Assembly in protest against the non-payment of their allowances by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

The Super Falcons won the just concluded 10th edition of the African Women championship held in Cameroon, making it the 8th time Nigeria won the competition.

However, many days after securing victory for Nigeria, team members are still held up in a hotel in Abuja as a result of non-payment of their entitlements.

Before deciding to storm the National Assembly today (Wednesday), the team members have been protesting daily on the streets of Abuja, vowed not to leave the hotel until their outstanding allowances were paid.

Today’s protest according to the team is strategic, as it would avail them the opportunity of directly presenting their case to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is expected at the National Assembly to present the 2017 budget estimates to the legislators.

The ladies who stormed the National Assembly carrying placards hope President Buhari will be sympathetic on the plight and address the pressing issues.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read: “Female football deserves respect;” “Let us respect women;” “We are your children, pity us.”
