SWAN to honour Tribune man at 60th anniversary celebration

The Deputy Editor, African Newspapers of Nigeria, Plc and immediate past Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter, Mr Adeniyi Alebiosu, will be conferred with the prestigious Veteran Journalist Award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN)

The award ceremony is lined up as part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of SWAN, scheduled to hold from 29th to 31st October 2025, in Abuja.

A letter from the umbrella body of sports journalists in the country, signed by its Secretary General, Mr Ikenna Okonkwo, explained that the award will be conferred on Alebiosu in recognition of his “outstanding contributions, professionalism and enduring service to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria”.

The Association noted with satisfaction that Alebiosu has, over the years, inspired generations of journalists through his commitment, mentorship and passion for the craft.

The award of recognition from SWAN NEC is the latest in a series of awards for the renowned sports journalist who recently received a similar award of honour from the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) on Thursday, 16th October 2025, at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, Press Centre Iyaganku in Ibadan.

Alebiosu, who served as the State Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in Oyo State between 2016 and 2023, is currently the Public Relations Officer of the Paralympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN) as well as a member of the Petitions Committee for the National Sports Federation Elections and the Nigeria Football Federation Committee.

Alebiosu, whose experience and practice span over two decades, is widely travelled and has covered multiple editions of various national and international sports competitions, including National Sports Festivals, All Africa Games, Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and the World Cup.
