TEAM Manager of Team Goshen of Ilorin, Mr Bolakale Amurawaiye, has said that the introduction of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC Tennis League Cup has elevated the standard of tennis in the country.
He made the remarks at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, after he received the cheque for N2million as prize money for Team Goshen, who finished fourth at the just-ended 2018 NCC Tennis League Cup.
“I must commend the Nigerian Communications Commission for boosting the standard of tennis in the country through this annual NCC Tennis League Cup. It has really helped the players in terms of output and it has also spread the game round the country. The organisation of this League Cup has been encouraging and it has also helped tennis players in the country to up their game and market themselves as well,” he told Corporatesport.
Amurawaiye stated that he was satisfied with the performance of Team Goshen at the just-ended season.
“Yes, this is an improvement because this time, we got to the semi-final and eventually finished fourth at the end of it all. We participated last season and only had a win to show. I commend the management of Goshen Ltd for sponsoring a tennis club and I believe the sky is going to be the limit as we will go back to the drawing board to see how we can achieve a better result next season,” Amurawaiye said.
Team Goshen, it will be recalled, lost to Team Leadway Assurance who paraded veteran Babalola Abdulmumin and Nigeria’s women’s number one, Sarah Adegoke among others, in the third place match of the just-ended NCC Tennis League Cup, as Team Tech Vibes of Jos emerged champions after a 4-0 victory over Team Offikwu of Kaduna in the final decided at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
