This weekend will see a few old boys returning to their old homes in a bid to hurt their former clubs in favour of their new employers.
Wayne Rooney was Manchester United’s captain and crowd favourite until this season. He remains the club’s highest goal scorer. This Sunday, he returns to Old Trafford with his new club Everton.
It is true Rooney started his career at Everton but it was at Manchester United that he achieved majority of his dreams and ambitions. He left Everton as a boy and left United as a man, a very successful and rich one.
On the other hand, Romelu Lukaku was a super star at Everton. He was their highest goal scorer last season. The plan was to build the team around him but he had other plans. He wants to play in the Champions League and more importantly, he has unfinished business with Jose Mourinho who sold him to Everton when they were both at Chelsea. Rooney who is currently going through domestic problems is sure to receive a warm welcome from the Old Trafford fans but don’t be surprised if Everton fans don’t treat Lukaku with similar warmth.
That shows you without any hidden agenda which group feels it got the better offer in the deal.
In a not so recent swap, Cesc Fabregas will be welcoming old Chelsea keeper Petr Cech to Stamford Bridge. Old wound are probably healed in the minds of Gunners who will be very few at Stamford Bridge but if Cesc scores the winning goal or he gets a key player from Arsenal to be sent off, Gunners will descend on him. May the better side win.
