Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris on wonder save: You need a bit of luck

A stunning Hugo Lloris save earned Tottenham a goalless draw and a valuable point at Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, but the France goalkeeper said he had luck to thank.

Leverkusen dominated the second half at the BayArena and looked certain to score when Javier Hernandez had the goal at his mercy at the back post.

Lloris, however, clawed the ball off the line to deny the former Manchester United striker as Spurs held on to claim a share of the spoils.

“You need a bit of luck in that kind of action and this time I saved the goal,” Lloris told BT Sport. “It was a key moment but it was not the only one.

“We should have scored in the first half and then the game would have been much different.

“I think we all want to go back to Wembley. The first game against Monaco is still in our minds and we want revenge for everyone and all the fans, they deserve more.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs had been much the better side in the opening period, with Vincent Janssen heading against the crossbar, but the visitors will be happy with the draw that keeps them second in Group E with two home games to come.

“We can pleased with a point,” Lloris added. “I think we missed chances in the first half, and at this level if you don’t score it is difficult to win games.

“Then in the second half the game turned. Leverkusen pressed high and we struggled a bit. I think a draw is a good result for us.

“We did a job defensively together. We were strong in midfield too — they contributed to getting the point. I think we can congratulate everyone. Let’s see what happens in two weeks.”
