Thomas Tuchel has extended his contract as England manager until Euro 2028.
The German, who took charge in January 2025, was initially appointed on a deal due to expire after this summer’s World Cup.
Tuchel said it was “no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far” and added that he was “very happy and proud” to continue in the role.
Euro 2028 will be hosted by England, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, with Tuchel understood to see leading England into a home tournament as a major opportunity.

The Football Association (FA) said the extension was aimed at ensuring stability and avoiding speculation over Tuchel’s future ahead of the World Cup.
The 52-year-old had been linked with Manchester United, where Michael Carrick is in charge until the end of the season. Tuchel had previously been considered for the role and reportedly met United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France in 2024.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham said the extension would allow the squad and staff to focus fully on the World Cup.
“We know the players are right behind him, and the togetherness within the group is there for all to see,” Bullingham said.
“By securing them early for 2028, we have taken away the potential distraction of contract negotiations around the tournament.”
Tuchel had said last November that the England job had “re-energised” him and that he was open to staying beyond his initial 18-month contract.
Announcing the new deal, Tuchel said the support from the FA and fans meant he “did not hesitate when asked to continue in this dream job”.
“Euro 2028 will be a very special tournament, and as a coach, there is nothing more you want than to compete with the very best on the biggest possible stage,” he added.
Tuchel’s backroom staff, Anthony Barry, Henrique Hilario, Nico Mayer and James Melbourne, have also signed extensions through to the summer of 2028.
Under Tuchel, England won all eight of their World Cup qualifying matches and will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama in the group stage of the finals.
The contract extension comes as Tuchel attended Thursday’s draw for the 2026–27 Nations League.
