The Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr have received a potential boost in their pursuit of Felix Uduokhai after it emerged that the left-footed central defender is set to miss out on selection for the upcoming 2020 European Championship.
According to authoritative German newspaper Bild, Uduokhai is not in the plans of Germany boss Joachim Löw due to an ankle injury that could see him miss the remainder of the season.
He suffered the injury in training and an operation is inevitable though the news has not yet been confirmed by Augsburg.
Uduokhai had to sit out Augsburg’s last game against Cologne before the short break due to accumulated bookings.
The 23-year-old, who has caps for Germany’s U19, U20 and U21 national teams, earned his first call up to the senior squad in November 2020 but was an unused substitute in a friendly vs Czech Republic and UEFA Nations League matches with Ukraine and Spain.

Born in Annaberg-Buchholz to a Nigerian father and German mother, he would have been cap-tied to his country of birth if he made his competitive debut at the European Championship.
Rohr is attempting to convince Uduokhai to switch his allegiance to the Super Eagles but has not been successful so far.
