Social media users have started to react to the shocking UFC middleweight belt loss of Nigerian-born New Zealand fighter, Israel Adesanya, to Sean Strickland of the United States of America.
Adesanya was surprisingly defeated by Strickland via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 293, the first UFC event in Australia’s largest city in six years.
Prior to the fight, Adesanya was expected to easily defeat his American opponent and keep the title he won from Alex Pereira at UFC 281 in April. However, the 32-year-old Strickland used a strong defensive and counter-attacking strategy effectively. He landed more impactful punches during the fight, while Adesanya had trouble finding a way to hurt Strickland.
Despite the loss, Nigerians have taken to social media to send their goodwill messages to the fighter, saying he will come back stronger than ever.

“Win or Lose, you’re still our Champion today, tomorrow and forever. Keep your head up Israel Adesanya! 🇳🇬❤️.” @AsiwajuLerry tweeted.
@mydeszn tweeted, “There’s always ups and downs in a career, he’d bounce back eventually.”
“You’re a winner doesn’t mean you’ll win every time. There should be downtime to make you humble yourself & also become more prepared 😑😑.” @youngskidmusic opined.
“In sports and in life you can’t win it all. Time for him to regroup and restrategize.” @skiduski tweeted.
@Malikifeoluwa wrote, “We all hate losing. It’s just part of the game. Win some and lose some. But I believe you will be back stronger.
