Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Wednesday night at the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations made it a treble, as they pipped the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their last group D game played at the Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua.
The three-time African champions after initial victories over Egypt and Sudan topped the group with maximum nine points.
Interestingly, it was the second time coach Austin Eguavoen, had coached Nigeria to win the first three group games at AFCON, as he did at the 2006 edition in Egypt.
Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho made his debut in the tournament alongside Tyronne Ebuehi and Jamilu Collins while Umar Sadiq and Kelechi Nwakali this time made the starting line up.

Semi Ajayi came close to scoring the opener in the 15th minute but his header was not well directed.
UD Almeria striker, Sadiq, was also unable to put Nigeria ahead in the 24th minute as he misjudged the ball after he had earlier displaced the Wild Dogs goalkeeper, Maurice Gomis on a one-on-one situation.
Also, Kelechi Iheanacho’s tricky long range looping ball was pushed for a corner kick by Gomis.
Sadiq eventually got it right in the 56th minute as he was well placed to connect a close range pass from Iheanacho with a simple tap-in past the keeper. Sadiq was replaced a minute later by Peter Olayinka as Simon Moses came on to replace Chidera Ejuke.
Alex Iwobi’s feeble shot in the box off a cross from Simon was blocked by a defender.
Troost-Ekong made it two in the 77th minute when he connected a rebound in the box off Simon’s brilliant effort; referee Peter Kamaku from Kenya had to consult VAR for the goal to count.
Frank Onyeka came on to replace Nwakali, while Olisa Ndah took over from Ebuehi.

Meanwhile, the Pharaohs of Egypt finished second on the table with six points following their 1-0 victory over Sudan also on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Abelmonem scored the all-important goal in the 35th minute with a header off a corner kick.
