Ernest Mabouka was sent off after VAR was consulted

VAR was again the center of attention as Germany beat Cameroon in Sochi.

VAR stole the show during Germany’s 3-1 win over Cameroon as referee Wilmar Roldan sent off the wrong player, after VAR had alreay been consulted.

On this occasion it was human error on the part of the referee but nonetheless it made for painful viewing.

The incident took place shortly after the hour mark when Ernest Mabouka went into a challenge near the half way line. He was awarded a yellow card but after the referee reviewed it, it was changed to a red. However, Roldan awarded the red to Sabastien Siani instead. Leading to another VAR referral to solve the case of mistaken identity.

Many onlookers have also questioned whether the challenge wsa worthy of a red card in the first place.
