VIDEO: Heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou leaves UFC over contract dispute

Cameroonian mixed martial arts fighter Francis Ngannou has parted ways with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after failing to agree to a contract with the company.

Ngannou’s exit was confirmed by UFC president Dana White, who blamed the 35-year-old Cameroonian for wanting more money while fighting lesser opposition.

According to White, Ngannou turned down an offer that would have made him the highest-paid heavyweight in the history of the company.

“I’ve told you guys this before if you don’t want to be here, you don’t have to be,” White said.

“I think Francis is in a place right now where he doesn’t want to take a lot of risks.

“He feels like he’s in a good position where he could fight lesser opponents and make more money. We’re going to let him do that, release him from his contract, and give up our right to match.

“He can go wherever he wants and do whatever he wants.
