VIDEO: ‘I am delighted’, Graham Potter reacts to Thiago Silva signing contract extension

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has revealed his delight at Thiago Silva signing a one-year contract extension to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues confirmed on Friday night the Brazilian had penned a new deal running until 2024.

Silva has been a huge favourite among Chelsea fans since his 2020 arrival from PSG and remains one of the world’s leading center-backs even at the age of 38.

Speaking to Chelsea’s club channels, Potter was full of praise for Silva, particularly for helping January signing Benoit Badiashile settle in at the back.

“I am delighted to hear the news of Thiago extending,” Potter said.

“Fantastic player, fantastic person, for us very important on the pitch, very important off the pitch.

“I think he’s played a really key role for us. When you look at his relationship with Benoit, in terms of helping younger players, mentoring at the same time, performing at the level he’s performing at so he can help us on the pitch.

“So well deserved and good news for us all.
