W-Cup qualifier: Ethiopia pose no threat to Flamingoes ―Nikyu

Head coach of Nigeria’s national U-17 women’s team, Bala Nikyu, has declared that Ethiopia posed no threat to the Flamingoes ahead of their 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers billed for next month.

Both countries clash in the first round of the African qualification series of the 6th FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup billed to hold in Uruguay.

Nikyu, who was reappointed for the third time to tinker the cadet team early this month, told sports journalists in Abuja that there was no team that served as a threat to Nigeria.

“There is no team that is a threat to us. Nigeria has many quality players to face Ethiopia,” Nikyu stated, adding that, “you must believe in yourself.”

On the first leg tie, Nikyu said, “there is no way we can go there without picking a point.”

He revealed that 30 players were in the camp adding that the coaching crew would keep replacing those not leaving up to expectation with a view to having the best in the team.

According to him, the Flamingoes trained twice daily now, just as he assured Nigerians that the team would not disappoint.

“From what I have seen so far, we have players that can do us proud,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nikyu has described his reappointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as a call to service.

“Your country decided that you are capable of doing something and they give you responsibility.

“At least, you must appreciate it and put in all you have not to disappoint people at the end of the day,” Nikyu said.

“I don’t look at challenges; it is what we are used to. There is nothing like challenges there.”
