Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has said the team is fully focused on defending its Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title and securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria will begin the defence of its continental crown in Morocco, where the Super Falcons are chasing a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.

Justine Madugu’s side has been drawn in Group B alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt.

The 2026 WAFCON will also serve as Africa’s qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nnadozie said the team will approach the competition one game at a time to avoid complacency.

“We will take it one match at a time because we cannot afford to stumble at any stage as a result of over-confidence. We will be focused squarely on the double targets of FIFA World Cup ticket and retaining the trophy,” Nnadozie told thenff.com.

The Brighton goalkeeper also welcomed the expansion of the tournament from 12 to 16 teams, saying it would increase the level of competition.

“It is interesting to have more teams in the finals (16 now, up from 12). That will make the tournament more competitive, but we are calm and focused regardless of the number of teams in the finals,” she said.
